U16 Basketball

Huge congratulations to our U16 Basketball team who had over Scoil Chlonglais yesterday.

Laura Dunlea opened the game scoring St Mary’s first basket, quickly followed by Amy Archbold with the second. Holly Smyth, Laura Dunlea and Zara Holland followed suit bringing the scoreboard to 12-4 to St. Mary’s by the end of the 1st quarter.

By the end of the second quarter St. Mary’s were leading by 12 points with a score 26-14 thanks to baskets from Laura Dunlea, Holly Smyth, and Olivia Staniavicz and great passing from Ava Tierney, Polly Phelan and Ciara O’Donovan. The introduction of Sarah McGrane, Vanesa Maghak, Ruth Kayode and Ruby Kennedy along with great defending by Holly Smyth kept St. Mary’s play steady and scoring steady.

However, with a fresh burst of energy on the last quarter Scoil Chlonglais came back and put the pressure on St. Mary’s coming short of levelling the game with 3minutes left on the clock. St. Mary’s dug deep and with scores from Holly Smyth, Laura Dunlea and Zara Holland St. Mary’s won the game with a score of 32-23.

Congratulations to all involved!
