Badminton U16 Tournament

A Team:
Singles: The singles matches were played first, two matches at a time. Temple were in the lead for the start of the first two matches Both girls played very well and there were intense moments including narrow shots from either side closely hitting the net. Cathy May's match was very close with amount Temple leading by a few points. Matylda's match including some long rallies but unfortunately Mount Temple won (30-7). Cathy's match was won closely by Mount Temple as well(24-30). Niamh Crotty's match started out close with both sides putting in high energy and strong shots and intense rallies. Well executed shots from Mount Temple meant they ended up winners (30-16). Gillian’s match began with a skilled shot placing Mary’s in the lead. This was then matched by Mount Temple who with high energy took the lead. The match consisted of strength from both sides, but Mount Temple got momentum in the second half and won in the end (30-11).
Doubles: The doubles matches started out extremely close and both sides seemed well matched. In Cathy and Matylda’s game there were intense rallies, which was tied. The team had good communication on the court and took the lead at half time (15-13) but Mount Temple then took the lead and won (23-30). Gillian and Niamh’s match was very close but was led by Mount Temple who eventually despite Mary’s efforts won (24-30).
B Team:
Singles: Shelly Wang started extremely strongly in her singles match, putting in clever shots and drawing the other team in. Her play was impressive but unfortunately the gap widened in the second half and Mount Temple secured the win (24-30). Selena Bontes-Naughton put up a very good fight keeping the score very close in the first half and stayed strong in some long-contested rallies. The second half saw Mount Temple get a boost of energy and the score widened allowing them to win (30-18). Niamh and Catarina both put up a good fight in their respective singles but Mount Temple won in the end.
Doubles: the doubles matches were both played out greatly. Shelly and Catarina’s match started out with some great shots. When Mount Temple took the lead, it led Mary’s to play defensively and there were less chances to even the score which allowed Mount Temple to win (30-13). Selena and Niamh’s match started out with Mount Temple having great shots which were hard for Mary’s to control, Mount Temple took a wide lead leaving the score to be (14-29). With Mount Temple on a match point, Mary’s got a surge of energy and began making impressive shots and judgements, this led them to score nine points in a row. Unfortunately, a Mary’s shot went out and Mount Temple finally won.
