Reporter Lily Smith

St. Mary’s college and St Vincent’s went head to head in the senior Leinster gaelic football championships. St Mary’s had a great start winning the throw in and Éabha Owens scoring the first point of the match. Team captain Anna Carpenter then went on to score yet another point for St Marys college. St Vincent’s had a very strong side but that was not stopping St. Mary’s when they were awarded a penalty that Alannah Prizeman put the ball straight over the bar putting St. Mary’s 0-3 up in the first 5 minutes! We continued to see some great plays from Laura Dunlea. Leah McGovern scored another amazing point for St. Mary’s. St Vincent’s tried to make a come back with Vincent’s no.10 winning the ball from St Mary’s but was stopped by St Mary’s phenomenal defence line. Great defence from Áine Mernagh and Eimear Glancy. A great shot from Eimear Reilly scoring St Mary’s yet another point and not even 30 seconds later we seen yet another point from Eimear Reilly playing a stormer of a game! St Vincent’s we’re not giving up there with No.19 scoring a point. The determined Alannah Prizeman fought back and immediately scored another point for St Marys. Following another goal from Alannah Prizeman at the 21st minute of the match and a goal from Leah McGovern in the 22nd minute! A great shot from St Vincent’s no.19, but our excellent and determined goalkeeper, Amy McGuire, stopped it comfortably. Amazing defence from Eimear Glancy who sent the ball down the field for Alannah Prizeman to finish it off with another superb goal. Alannah prizeman continued to score another goal. St Vincent’s were awarded a free and scored a point to finish off the second half 3-9 to 0-3, still a great game from both sides.

St Vincent’s were determined starting off this second half and no.8 won the throw in. No.8 fought for a goal but she was stopped by our amazing defence from Laura Dunlea and Katie Harney. St Vincent’s weren’t giving up without a fight until St. Mary’s determined Sophie Lawlor who was just on the pitch scored a phenomenal goal. St Vincent’s fought back and scored themselves a point. That didn’t stop Alannah Prizeman who was awarded a penalty and she put the ball straight over the bar winning St Marys another point. Continuing on we see yet another point for St. Mary’s from Eimear Reilly. St. Mary’s were not stopping there when Laura Dunlea and Sarah McGovern scored 2 more points for St. Mary’s only 30 seconds apart! Our determined St. Mary’s team were rewarded a free, Leah McGovern took it and scored another phenomenal point. Leah McGovern was not finished there, when she put the ball straight to the back of the net scoring St. Mary’s another goal. Sophie Lawlor then went on to score her second goal of the match. Sarah McGovern went on to hit 3 points over the bar all within 3 minutes of each other. St Marys were not done there when Alannah Prizeman put yet another ball over the bar. Leah McGovern scored another beautiful point. Finally, Alannah Prizeman passed the ball over to Dervla Hanifin who scored the final goal of the match. This left St Marys Leinster champions finishing with the score of 7-22 to 0-5. We couldn’t be prouder of them and a well-deserved Man of the match went to Alannah Prizeman.
