Today the Minor Hockey team played Loretto Balbriggan at home, in the St. Mary’s pitch.
First half
The girls came out starting off strong and played the match today with loads of energy. There was great teamwork between mid and defence with Ava Conroy passing an amazing ball to Lily Moran who made a run up to goal sweeping a ball over to Lucy Ling who scored the first goal of the match. The girls kept the pressure up throughout the first half with making amazing opportunities for a goal and even securing a short corner. Unfortunately, at the end of the first half Loreto scored a goal making the score at the end of the first half 1-1.
Second half
At Mary’s started the second half by upping the pressure onto the opposing but unfortunately the second half did not start off as planned as Loreto scored their second goal. Even after this there was still a high work rate in the midfield between Alannah O Sullivan and Kate Flemming. Loreto put up a tough fight and put a lot of pressure on, the girls in defence showed great teamwork, put on a strong front, and managed to make some great saves. There was fantastic work from Gail’s Hannah Browne who made some amazing saves. Unfortunately, at the end of the match Loreto managed to score two more goals. Making the result 4-1. The girls upset with their loss we are still able to have a smile on their faces when the voted Hannah Browne as Player of the match. Well done today girls, they played a fantastic game, thought the result was not in their Cavour it certainly does not reflect on the play of the girls today and their amazing teamwork!
