Camogie report written by Sara Carroll TY.
On Monday 23rd September, the St Mary’s Junior Camogie team played their first game of the year, against Coláiste Íosogáin. Captained by goalie Hannah Murphy the girls were eager to get the campaign off to a positive start. The girls were focused from the minute they reached the GAA and stepped foot onto the pitch. An intense warm up got the blood pumping and the girls were ready to go. A few wise words from coaches Ms Hughes and Mr McGeever rallied the girls up and the game soon began. Coláiste Íosogáin of Dublin got the first score of the game, but St Mary’s immediately got one back right after. Two goals from the opponents left St Mary’s doubtful of the win. But at half time, the wrongs were corrected, and they were ready for a second half to grasp a win. The girls started very well a goal from Emma Kearns. The game was fought out until the very end, with excellent scores coming from both sides. In the end, the St Mary’s girls fell short of a win. The girls gave it their all and were unlucky to not come out victorious, as they showed great skill and composure throughout the toughest parts of the game. Although it was not a result they had hoped for, both the teams and coaches will be looking on from this to improve on small errors and hope to succeed in the next match of the league.
