As the match began, Moate Community School wasted no time getting stuck in, with great defending from Emma Lafferty and some brilliant saves from Lucy Gavin, keeping St Mary’s in the game. With a strong wind blowing across the field, Faye Kennedy and Sophie Doheny battled well in the middle of the pitch to create chances for their team. Although St Mary’s were quite unlucky to miss some scoring opportunities, Sarah McNamee worked up and down the pitch to fight her strong opposition. Isabella Talotti came up very unlucky with two strong shots on goal, assisted by Faye Kennedy, that strayed just left of the post. Unfortunately, Moate CS had a long ball up the pitch, followed by a quick sprint by their striker to put the ball in the back of the net.
With St Mary’s still trying to claw back the goal, Moate CS had another stroke of luck, as a misjudged SMCN pass followed by another sprint ended up in the back of the net. The girls never gave up, and Lucy Gavin had another excellent save to deny Moate another goal, but it proved too strong a lead for St Mary’s, as Moate won 2-0. Sarah McNamee received player of the match for her excellent efforts all through the game.
