Senior Soccer St. Mary’s Naas Vs Gaelcolaiste Cill Dara
The Senior Soccer team opened their season with a home game against neighbours Gaelcolaiste Cill Dara. The home side were quick out of the blocks and tested the Gaelscoil keeper 3 times in the opening minutes, most notably from the boot of Orlagh Fitzpatrick. The breakthrough came after 7 mins when Ella Tobin intercepted the opposition centre back on the edge of the box and placed a well hit shot to the keepers bottom left corner. It was 2-0 on 10 mins when Alannah Prizeman played a superb through ball to the clinical Orlagh Fitzpatrick who finished powerfully to the net from 12 yds. Orlagh made it 3-0 a minute later, picking the ball up from an Eabha Owens pass in midfield before using her explosive pace to beat 3 defenders before placing the ball to the keepers left.
The Gaelscoil began to get a foothold in the game, but a resolute back line of Anna Carpenter, Lucy Cahill, Aibhe Graham and Leah Mooney were in no mood to allow keeper Anna Dunlea to be exposed, limiting the opposition to long shots. Ella Tobin at the other end made it 4-0 when she was played through by Katelyn Alison-Curtis. It was 5 on the stroke of Half time when Orlagh worked an opening with Alannah to fire home from close range.
In the 2nd half Mr. Langton rang the changes but the pressure just kept up from the St. Mary’s girls. Lucy Plummer hit the crossbar before Alannah scored a quick-fire double, played down the right by Orlagh and again by Katelyn Alannah finished both goals shooting across the keeper from the right side of the box into the bottom left corner. The Gaelscoil were unlucky to see a corner go in off their own defender to make it 8-0. Katelyn scored an excellent goal from distance late on after moving into Midfield and in the last-minute Lorena Di Stefano was rewarded for all her hard work when she crept in to finish a ball over the top from Orlagh. In what was a brilliant team performance Katelyn, Orlagh, Alannah and Anna were excellent on the day.
