Awards Night in St. Mary's

Students from the Leaving Certificate class of 2015/16 at St. Mary’s College, Naas, were honoured at the annual Awards Night, held in the school, on Thursday, December 8th. The award recipients and their guests, present and retired staff, members of the Board of Management, Parents’ Council, Past Pupils’ Association and Student Council were in attendance at the ceremony. The girls received awards in recognition of their exceptional academic achievement and their overall contribution to school life. Board of Management Chairperson, Mr. John Clancy and Principal, Ms. McCabe, spoke of the honour these girls brought to themselves, their families and the school. They are to be heartily congratulated and are living proof of the school’s ethos which encourages both talent and effort.

 The girls receiving awards were: Christina Anderson, Caroline Behan, Niamh Bergin, Eimear Broderick, Aisling Byrne, Anna Cahill, Ailbhe Cassidy, Anna Cleary, Aoife Coffey, Aisling Coughlan, Amy Crofton, Maria Crowley Smith, Siobhán Delaney, Ríona Devereux, Eadaoin Duffy, Caoimhe Duffy, Ciara Flaherty, Caitríona Flynn, Fiona Jacob, Aisling Kelly, Aoife Lynch, Katie Mernagh, Rose Mernagh, Lily Nolan, Niamh O’Brien, Leah O’Regan, Sophie O’Reilly, Ornagh O’Reilly, Molly O’Sullivan, Laura Power, Jane Rigby, Ciara Robotham, Mary Ryan, Claire Scanlon and Ciara Wall – each of whom attained 500 points or more in their Leaving Certificate.

Anna Cleary and Siobhán Delaney, sharing the Marie O’Neill Award for Maths and Science, achieved the maximum 625 points while Caitríona Flynn, Aoife Lynch and Ciara Flaherty received Entrance Scholarships to Trinity College Dublin; Ciara Wall, Niamh Bergin, Fiona Jacob, Jane Rigby and Rose Mernagh received Entrance Scholarships to UCD and Aisling Byrne received an Entrance Scholarship to NUI, Maynooth.

Special awards were given to Julieann Connolly, Róisín Keohane, Grace McEntegart, Róisín Sheridan and Lucy Sheridan for promoting and exampling the school’s ethos. Caroline Behan, Niamh Bergin, Emma Byrne, Jane Rigby and Lauren Wright were acknowledged for outstanding achievement in an extra-curricular activity - Music, Sport, Technology, Art. 

Chloe Mangan received the Past Pupils’ Association Award, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to school life, the example she set in promoting the school ethos and her ability to motivate her fellow students to achieve their potential.

The Past Pupils’ Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and was acknowledged, at the ceremony, for the very valuable contribution its members have made to school life, over many years. Bernadine McCabe was presented with an award in recognition of her work with the association.

The Parents’ Association presented awards to Katie Dempsey for her work as Head Girl and to Junior School Student of the Year, Caoimhe Maher. Junior students Sarah Freeley and Anna Roche, both of whom were recognised by the State Examinations Commission as high achievers in Maths and Science, received awards for their exceptional Junior Certificate results.

Former Deputy Principal, Ms. Orla Forde, who was recently appointed Principal of Lusk Community College, received a presentation for her outstanding commitment to St. Mary’s College over the last five years.
