There has always been a proud tradition in Athletics in St. Mary’s College.

The Athletics club train weekly, with running sessions along the canal as a highlight for many students and teachers. This really helps to improve our students and teacher’s fitness levels in preparation for both cross country and track and field competitions throughout the year.

Students participate in Cross Country Athletics in South Leinster, Leinster and All Ireland levels, along with Indoor Championships and outdoor Track & Field competitions.

Our most recent successes are Emily McHugh All Ireland Intermediate Champion in race walking and Maria Flynn Runner-up in All Ireland Intermediate race walking. Grace Casey holds the National record for Senior Javelin and is the current All Ireland Senior Champion in Javelin. Also, our Minor & Senior Cross Country athletics teams have qualified for the Leinsters this year.

Teachers involved in Athletics in St. Mary’s are F. O’Sullivan, L. Parke, N. Gallagher & M. Whittle.
