St. Mary's Cairdeas programme is now in its third year. It is a mentoring programme where twelve 6th year pupils mentor the six 2nd year classes. This involves visiting classes once a week and being available to help 2nd years make the transition from first year to second year. The Cairdeas leaders are very committed to the programme and have a team meeting once a week during which they plan activities for their 2nd year classes. This year's Cairdeas team are Lauren Corkery, Maria Cooke, Emma Cusack, Edel Dunne, Lauren Fitzgerald, Katie Fitzsimons, Amy Jones, Caoimhe Kavanagh, Anna Lalor, Lauren McGinley, Rebecca McGrail and Louise Murphy.
The Cairdeas team organised a very successful games activity for all the 2nd yeats in August and on Monday 24th October, a movie night took place.
Cairdeas in December
Well done to the Cairdeas team who organised a very successful 2nd year outing to Naas cinema before Christmas. Excitement was in the air from early morning on Wednesday 14th December as 2nd years waited for the bell to ring at 11:50. After roll call and a head count in the Assembly Hall, the first 3 classes headed off down the drive way to the waiting busses. It was not long before the message came through that the busses had arrived back for the last 3 classes and so off we all headed. On reaching the Odeon Cinema, popcorn, sweets and drinks were ready and waiting for all pupils and so amidst much chattering and laughter all took their places in the cinema and waited for 'Sully' to begin. There was hardly a sound as the events of the film unfolded and at the final moment, when all worked out for the best, spontaneous clapping broke out. Back on the busses again and all arrived safely back to St. Mary's having enjoyed their Christmas treat. Well done to all the Cairdeas leaders on their excellent organisation of the event.
